Rhys AKA Esper has been a DJ for 20 years. He’s been an ardent follower of the sounds of the UK underground since the tender age of 12 when he picked up a 99p sampler CD from the legendary jungle/drum & bass record label Moving Shadow. He got his first set of turntables a few years later, began collecting records and DJing in local clubs and raves. Initially a full-on junglist, his musical tastes and record collection gradually evolved to include dubstep, garage, hip hop, grime, techno, IDM, jazz, funk and anything with a serious groove.
His DJ influences include Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Alexander Nut, Ben UFO, Surgeon, Aphex Twin, Kode 9, Youngsta, Mr Scruff, DJ Shadow, DJ Krush and John Peel. He is also heavily influenced by UK pirate radio where new styles of music are often first given exposure, shaping the sounds and setting the trends long before the mainstream gets involved.
Finding new music and introducing it to others is his biggest passion and is happy to be given this platform to expose listeners to the twisted funk and sub-bass pressure that soundtracks the more hedonistic dancefloors around the world.
Future beats for future people.
